The smell in a fridge usually is not coming from the shelves. It is coming from the rubber door gasket, where moisture sits in the folds and grows mould that wiping will never remove — it has to be brushed out. The second source is the drip tray and drain hole at the back, where water collects and stagnates.
We empty the fridge, take out every shelf, drawer and basket and wash them separately, clean the walls and ceiling with a food-safe solution, brush every fold of the gasket, clear the drain hole and wash the drip tray. A deodorising treatment finishes the job.
What most companies skip: the condenser coils at the back. Once they are furred with dust the compressor has to run longer to hold temperature — you lose cooling and pay for it on the electricity bill. We vacuum them.
Time and prep: 60–90 minutes for a standard fridge, a little longer for double-door or side-by-side. Switching the fridge off half an hour before we arrive helps. Emptying the food yourself speeds things up, but we will do it if you cannot.
